AE 481W and AE482 Reflection

Upon completion of the Architectural Engineering Senior Capstone Thesis project, I have come to find that it is a broaden and multi-faceted experience that adds value to the Architectural Engineering degree completion process. The material learned  and process of completing the AE 481W and AE482 couses are valuable in that they properly prepare students for their transition into professional work. I personally feel much more capable upon its completion. Through necessary collaboration, students are exposed to how important it is to ask the important questions and to reach out to appropriate sources.

I might add that though the AE481W and AE482 courses are properly focused on fine tuning a students ability to perform work that they will be performing upon graduation, it does not allow for extreme variation and individuality from a personal interest. Requiring the same material output from all students limits diversiity and personal interest exploration.

Overall, the AE senior thesis experience is enriching. It is informative and effectively applies the integrated educational experience that the five year architectural engineering curriculum offers.

“Note: While great efforts have been taken to provide accurate and complete information on the pages of CPEP, please be aware that the information contained herewith is considered a work‐in‐ progress for this thesis project. Modifications and changes related to the original building designs and construction methodologies for this senior thesis project are solely the interpretation of Christopher Ankeny. Changes and discrepancies in no way imply that the original design contained errors or was flawed. Differing assumptions, code references, requirements, and methodologies have been incorporated into this thesis project; therefore, investigation results may vary from the original design.”
